What We Do

The University of Chicago’s Academic and Professional Reading Institute (APRI) enables its participants to proficiently read and integrate secondary research literature into their work, meeting critical graduate requirements and job-specific duties.

We are dedicated to equipping graduate students, academics, and other professionals with the advanced reading skills essential for their disciplines.

What APRI provides

  • A comprehensive suite of non-credit online seminars designed to deliver real-world skills
  • A pioneering assessment tool—the Academic Reading Comprehension AssessmentTM (ARCA)

Rigorous design and development

Both our seminars and our assessment (ARCATM) were developed from in-depth pedagogical expertise and pioneering research, refined through years of practice and success at the University of Chicago. Since launching in 2017, offerings have expanded from two to twelve languages across virtually all departments with graduate language requirements.

Building on the success at the University of Chicago, APRI’s online seminars and ARCATM assessment tool are now available to graduate students, academics, and other professionals across North America.
